The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) in its recent update reported that its USS Mason, along with CENTCOM forces, destroyed an inbound anti-ship ballistic missile (ASBM) over the Gulf of Aden.

According to the announcement, the missile was launched by Iranian-backed Houthi militants from Yemen. The ASBM was believed to be targeting the MV Yorktown, a US-flagged vessel escorted by USS Laboon and USS Mason.

CENTCOM further emphasized that the interception was crucial as the ASBM posed an imminent threat to vessels in the region.
