The United States Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) shared on Friday in a press release that fresh sanctions would be imposed on Russia's energy sector.

OFAC explained that it took "sweeping action" to fulfill the G7 commitment to hit Russian energy revenues, which encompasses the blocking of two major Russian oil producers. "Today's actions also impose sanctions on an unprecedented number of oil-carrying vessels, many of which are part of the 'shadow fleet,' opaque traders of Russian oil, Russia-based oilfield service providers, and Russian energy officials," it was further detailed in the press release.

The United Kingdom also joined Washington in restricting the two major oil manufacturers, PJSC Gazprom Neft and Surgutneftegas.
