The number of job openings in the United States stood at 10.1 million in April, up 358,000 from the figure documented in the month prior, the country's Bureau of Labor Statistics reported on Wednesday.
The Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) showed that the number of hires was almost flat at 6.1 million, and the rate remained at 3.9%.
Total separations dropped 286,000 to 5.7 million, with the rate almost unchanged at 3.7%. The number of quits reached 3.8 million, and the number and rate of layoffs and discharges decreased to 1.6 million and 1%, respectively.
