US judge signs $2.7B settlement for student athletes

United States Judge Claudia Wilken approved the final proposal to end restrictions on revenue sharing, CNN reported.

This includes an order directing schools to share up to $20.5 million with their athletes, as well as pay an additional $2.7 billion to former athletes who have been barred from receiving said compensation up to now, which will be paid over the next decade.

This comes almost five years after Arizona State swimmer Grant House sued the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and its five biggest conferences in order to remove restrictions on revenue sharing.
