US markets open mixed after earnings, data

Wall Street opened mixed on Tuesday after Caterpillar, Pfizer and Amgen announced their respective third-quarter earnings updates. In addition, traders analyzed the latest data on home prices.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average index declined 0.15% or 170 points in the first minute of trading. Caterpillar dragged the index down, falling 6.67% at 9:31 am ET. The Nasdaq 100 was flat at 9:30 am ET. The S&P 500 was 0.11% higher to begin the trading session. Arista Networks gained 10.86% at 9:32 am ET.

The euro was down 0.11% compared to the dollar at 9:29 am ET, changing hands for 1.06051.
