    US oil rig count up by 2 to 499

    The number of oil rigs in the United States stood at 499 in the week ending January 26, increasing by two compared to the previous week, according to the Baker Hughes weekly rig count data released on Friday. On an annual basis, the number of oil rigs dropped by 110.

    The US gas rig count decreased by one and stood at 119 during the same week, while it fell by 41 compared to last year. The total number of rigs in the country currently stands at 621, up by one from last week and plunging by 150 from the previous year.

    In Canada, the number of total rigs was up by seven to 230 compared to the week before, but it decreased by 17 from the same period in 2023. The number of oil rigs in Canada increased by 4 to 144, and the number of gas rigs rose by three to 86 compared to the week before.

    Working gas storage across the United States observed a weekly rise of 16 billion cubic feet (Bcf) to reach 1,846 Bcf in the week ending April 11, the Energy Information Administration (EIA) revealed in its report published on Thursday.The stocks declined by 480 Bcf compared to the same period a year ago and remained 74 Bcf below the five-year average of 1,920 Bcf.
