US opens higher on last trading day of 2024

Major stock indexes on Wall Street traded with gains at the open on Tuesday, the last day of 2024, with investors preparing for what's to come in 2025. The Federal Reserve's monetary policy moves and United States President-elect Donald Trump's second term remain in focus. Meanwhile, US housing data came out today.

The Dow Jones grew 0.22% at the open, with Amazon up 0.72% at 9:31 am ET. At 9:30 am ET, the Nasdaq 100 added 0.28%, as MicroStrategy surged 4.03% a minute later. At the beginning of the trading session, the S&P 500 rose 0.21%, with VeriSign growing 1.87% at 9:31 am ET.

The euro was down 0.15% against the dollar at 9:29 am ET, selling at 1.03828.
