US opposes new Turkish operation in Syria - Austin

United States Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin (pictured left) told Turkish Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar (right) that Washington would strongly oppose a new operation in Syria by Ankara's military.

According to a readout of the phone conversation issued by the Pentagon, Austin "also expressed concern over escalating action in northern Syria" and Turkey, singling out Ankara's "recent airstrikes, some of which directly threatened the safety of U.S. personnel who are working with local partners in Syria to defeat ISIS."
