US regulator probing Tesla over braking issue

United States National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said on Thursday it launched a preliminary investigation into Tesla over a reported issue with the braking system that affected 416,000 vehicles.

The probe was launched after 354 customers reported unexpected activation of the braking system in the cars equipped with Autopilot over the past nine months.

The NHTSA noted that 2021-2022 Model 3 and Model Y vehicles in the US are covered by the investigation.

Tesla shares were down 1.44% in premarket trading.
