US reportedly prepares new rules for gas, energy consumption

EPA-EFE/HANNIBAL HANSCHKE

The United States Department of Energy is preparing a new set of requirements to ensure that newer models of gas and electric stoves consume less energy, The Washington Post reported on Monday.

The regulations could be published middle of this week and awaken new frictions between Democrats and Republicans as in the past, the GOP has blamed President Joe Biden of being a "climate radical" whose politics look for increasing prices. However, the analyst quoted by the media highlighted that the set of rules could benefit households by reducing $120 yearly in energy bills and helping manufacturers.

Should it be approved, it would aim to control CO2 emissions from household appliances.
