American officials are concerned that China-made cranes could be used to gather intelligence by Beijing, The Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday.
The cranes are equipped with sensors that can track the origin and destination of cargo containers, and several such cranes have been installed in ports used by the Pentagon, which could be used to track the movement of US military supplies, according to the report. These cranes also reportedly have access that allows them to be remotely influenced.
The news comes after the US military in February shot down several suspected Chinese spy balloons.
