The United States Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) revealed Wednesday that it sanctioned two entities and two individuals involved in a "foreign malign influence campaign" allegedly carried out by the Russian government to influence the distortion of the information and "deceive audiences" in different international scenarios.
The Treasury outlined in a statement Ilya Andreevich Gambashidze, Nikolai Aleksandrovich Tupikin and their firms, Social Design Agency (SDA) and Company Group Structura LLC (Structura) have been providing their services to the Kremlin to perform "[...] illicit cyber activities, to undermine the interests of the United States and its allies and partners, including in Latin America, the Middle East, and Europe."
"We are committed to exposing Russia's extensive campaigns of government-directed deception, which are intended to mislead voters and undermine trust in democratic institutions in the US and around the world," Under Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Brian E. Nelson noted.
