EPA-EFE/JUSTIN LANE

Wall Street was down in premarket trade on Wednesday, as concerns about the effects of the Omicron coronavirus variant on the economy lingered. Yesterday, United States President Joe Biden and the White House both said that they expect the number of breakthrough infections to rise. Meanwhile, the president's fellow Democrats held a meeting last night about the future of his economic agenda in 2022.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average index was down 0.14%, the Nasdaq 100 declined 0.42% and the S&P 500 decreased 0.27% at 4:10 am ET.

The euro was 0.09% lower compared to the US dollar, changing hands for 1.12721 a minute later.
