US spirits groups urge 'constructive dialogue' amid tariffs

EPA-EFE/ALLISON DINNER

The Distilled Spirits Council of the United States, Spirits Canada and the Mexican Chamber of the Tequila Industry stated that they are "deeply concerned that US tariffs on imported spirits from Canada and Mexico will significantly harm all three countries," CNN reported, citing a joint statement by the groups.

"We urge all parties to engage in constructive dialogue to address these concerns proactively and maintain our shared commitment to a thriving spirits industry across North America,” the statement said, adding that the groups were concerned that the US tariffs would lead to "a cycle of retaliatory tariffs that negatively impacts our shared industry.”

Earlier, the White House announced that US President Trump was imposing a 25% tariff on Mexican imports, a 25% tariff on Canadian goods and a 10% tariff on its energy resources.
