The United States is prepared to defend Israel in case Iran decides to retaliate against Israel but hopes that the direct exchange of strikes between the two countries will now end, a senior Biden administration official said.
According to the official, Washington urged Israel to limit its response to avoid causing civilian casualties and confine attacks to military facilities. "That appears to have been precisely what transpired this evening," the official noted.
"Accordingly, we will call on all countries of influence to press Iran to stop these attacks against Israel so that we can move beyond this direct cycle of attacks over the coming days," he concluded.
