The United States is set to provide Israel with $3.5 billion to spend on armaments and military equipment, CNN reported Friday, citing people familiar with the topic.

The monetary aid comes months after Congress appropriated it to Tel Aviv, and it is part of the $14.1 billion supplemental funding bill for Israel that Congress passed in April, the sources added.

The funding is essentially for Israel to buy advanced weapons systems and other equipment from the US through the Foreign Military Financing program, amid escalating tensions with Iran.
