Washington called on Israel on Sunday to greenlight the United States military aid to Palestinian Authority security forces that would be used for a specific operation, Axios reported on Sunday citing US, Palestinian and Israeli officials.

According to the officials, the operation in question has to do with regaining control in Jenin city as Palestinian security forces continue to fight militants in the area. "This operation is a make-or-break moment for the Palestinian Authority," a Palestinian official stated.

The officials further explained that the operation was launched over fears that the militant groups in the region might try to topple the Palestinian Authority after what happened in Syria.
