The administration of United States President Joe Biden is privately urging Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to say he is ready to engage in negotiations with Moscow in order to try and end the war in his country, the Washington Post reported citing US officials.

According to the sources, Washington's goal is not to push Kiev to the negotiating table but to ensure other countries continue to support it in its war with Russia as they are worried the war could drag for many years. "Ukraine fatigue is a real thing for some of our partners," one of the officials noted.

In October, Zelensky signed a decree on the impossibility of holding negotiations with Russia while Putin is in power but noted he would consider talks with another Russian leader in the future.
