The United States Treasury's Office of Inspector General is starting an audit of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) team, led by Elon Musk, the Associated Press reported on Friday. The team, consisting of unelected individuals, gained access to several federal agencies and their data, including the Treasury.

According to a letter by Treasury Deputy Inspector General Loren Sciurba, the audit is unlikely to be completed before August but the office will release interim updates and reports if necessary, considering "the danger that improper access or inadequate controls can pose to the integrity of sensitive payment systems." The Trump administration has already fired a number of inspector generals, who have filed a wrongful dismissal lawsuit.
