Iran's navy tried to seize two oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday but the United States prevented the attempts, the Associated Press reported citing the US Navy.
"The Iranian navy did make attempts to seize commercial tankers lawfully transiting international waters," the US Navy's Fifth Fleet spokesperson Tim Hawkins stated. "The US Navy responded immediately and prevented those seizures," he added.
Iran has not commented on the alleged incidents.
