United States President Donald Trump said the Federal Reserve would be "better off" cutting interest rates after the central bank decided on Wednesday to hold rates steady.

"The Fed would be MUCH better off CUTTING RATES as US Tariffs start to transition (ease!) their way into the economy. Do the right thing. April 2nd is Liberation Day in America," Trump wrote on Truth Social.

US Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said on Wednesday that inflation expectations have risen recently, with tariffs playing a significant role.
