United States Department of State spokesman Ned Price said on Wednesday that the Iran nuclear deal is not "imminent nor certain."
"We are not there yet. We have seen the significant progress that had been achieved in recent weeks, but the agreement is neither imminent nor certain," asserted Price adding that the United States is preparing for "both scenarios."
The first scenario would be that there is "a mutual compliance with the JCPOA" where "the original members of the JCPOA would be involved in that very arrangement that would once again reimpose stringent, verifiable, permanent limits on Iran's ability to ever obtain a nuclear weapon." The second scenario would be that there is no "JCPOA, but in which we would be equally committed to the president's commitment that Iran will never be allowed to acquire a nuclear weapon," shared Price.
Earlier today, Iran's officials stated that the agreement on reviving the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is "closer than ever before."
