USAID inspector general reportedly fired

EPA-EFE/SHAWN THEW

Paul Martin, the inspector general of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has supposedly been fired one day after his office published a report criticizing President Donald Trump's administration for efforts to dismantle the agency, CNN reported, citing a source familiar with the matter.

In Monday's report, the USAID Office of Inspector General (OIG) warned that the Trump administration's reduction of the agency's personnel, coupled with the freeze on foreign aid, made it difficult to monitor any potential misuse of US humanitarian funds.

Martin supposedly received an email from the deputy director of the Office of Presidential Personnel on Tuesday, informing him that his position was "terminated, effective immediately," according to the news agency.
