The United States Postal Service (USPS) will buy 106,000 delivery vehicles by 2028, more than half of which will be electric, Postmaster General Louis DeJoy told The Washington Post on Tuesday. 60,000 "next-generation" vehicles will be bought from specialty truck company Oshkosh Corp., while 46,000 will come from automakers. 66,000 of the units will be electric as part of the Biden administration's effort to fight climate change.
The entire purchase will cost $9.6 billion and should be announced later in the day, according to the report. DeJoy added that the USPS will almost exclusively buy zero-emission trucks from 2026.
