USTR: EU failed to comply with Airbus ruling

United States Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer (pictured) accused the European Union of not bringing itself into compliance with the World Trade Organization's ruling on the Airbus aircraft subsidies case.

Lighthizer said the $7.5 billion worth tariffs imposed on EU imports back in October will remain at 25% for all goods and 15% for aircraft but that certain Greek and British products will be replaced by French and German equivalents. On the other hand, the bloc's Trade Commissioner Phil Hogan noted he wishes to proceed with negotiations to find a solution to ongoing trade issues.

The tariffs were first placed after some EU members were accused of providing illegal subsidies to the aircraft manufacturer, which the European Commission claimed the governments in question have rectified.
