Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, Jens Stoltenberg, in an interview with NBC on Sunday said Ukraine's capture of the key strategic city of Lyman in Donetsk shows Kiev's ability to fight back against enemy forces.

Stoltenberg claimed the move is a testament to Ukrainian "courage,'' "bravery" and "skills," noting that it also shows the effectiveness of the weapons provided to Kiev by the United States and its allies. "We have seen that they have been able to take a new town, Lyman, and that demonstrates that the Ukrainians are making progress," Stoltenberg said.

Talking about Ukraine's NATO membership request, the secretary general underscored the need for a consensus to be reached between all 30 member states before the country's accession can be approved.
