The attendees of the London Summit on Ukraine will discuss the United States' proposal to have Crimea recognized as Russian territory to speed up freezing the front lines and an eventual peace agreement between Moscow and Kiev, the Washington Post (WAPO) reported on Tuesday.
The idea was reportedly first conceived by US President Donald Trump and then presented to Ukraine by Washington's representatives at the summit in Paris earlier in the month. According to people familiar with the matter, the deal would stipulate the US recognizing Crimea as Russian and lifting its sanctions against the Eurasian country in exchange for Moscow withdrawing its troops and ceasing its operations in Ukraine.
On the other hand, Ukraine's allies were said to want to secure guarantees and aid programs for Kiev if there should be any territorial concessions.
