President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen stated on Monday, during her speech at the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Switzerland, that Ukraine is capable of re-emerging from this war stronger than before.
Von der Leyen noted that the EU "has a special responsibility and strategic interest in standing alongside Ukraine," and that it will assist it during its reconstruction. Although the challenges are "huge" they are not "insurmountable," she said, adding that Ukraine "can emerge from this war on a path towards a stronger and more modern country."
The EC president shared that she and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, while in close cooperation with international partners, "will organize a high-level international conference after the summer" in order to ensure that the investors' money will be "spent efficiently and effectively" during the reconstruction process.
