Senior Ukrainian presidential official Ihor Zhovkva has accused Russia of attacking at least eight energy facilities since 18 March, despite previously announcing a halt to such attacks. Speaking on Ukrainian television on Wednesday, he also noted that discussions with US officials over a Black Sea truce did not include any preconditions.
The Kremlin, however, insisted that Russian forces have followed Russian President Vladimir Putin's order to stop attacking Ukraine's energy infrastructure. Spokesman Dmitry Peskov accused Kiev of violating the agreement by attempting strikes on Russian sites, arguing that Ukraine has repeatedly shown it cannot be trusted in negotiations.
The ban on targeting energy infrastructure was a key element of a partial ceasefire promoted by the US following talks in Riyadh. However, Ukraine reported new Russian drone attacks, casting doubt on Moscow's commitment to the agreement.
