Ukraine's Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko revealed on Wednesday that the suspect in the explosion that struck the Shevchenkivskiy District Court in Kiev earlier in the day died after he "blew himself up." Klymenko confirmed that two police officers were injured in the incident.

Kiev City Prosecutor's Office previously stated that its preliminary investigation showed that the supposed perpetrator locked himself inside a room in the court building after he was scheduled to appear as a defendant in a case before the court. He first "attempted to escape from custody while in the restroom" and then "used an unidentified explosive device," according to the prosecutor's office.

Local media reported separately that the suspect is Ihor Humenyuk, accused of throwing grenades near the Verkhovna Rada building in 2015.
