Uniper SE's spokesperson confirmed on Monday to Handelsblatt that the company received a letter from PJSC Gazprom in which it blamed the decline in deliveries of gas from Russia to the European Union on force majeure.
The spokesperson stressed that Uniper rejected this explanation and described it as unjustified.
The news came amid the maintenance on the Nord Stream 1 pipeline, which is expected to be out of service until July 21 until a turbine that Canada eventually sent to Germany is installed.
