European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen pointed out on Tuesday during her speech at the EU Ambassadors' Conference that the bloc's "best approach" was to remain "level-headed" to face the "hyper-competitive" reality.
"We are in the era of hyper-competitive and hyper-transactional geopolitics. In this hot-headed world, Europe's best approach is to remain level-headed. Europe must make calculated judgments about what is in its own interest in the world as it is today and build a foreign policy that stays true to who we are and deliver for our people and partners," Von der Leyen said.
She urged a reassessment of trade dealings with China, aiming to restore balance and ensure mutual benefits for Europe. Additionally, Von der Leyen emphasized that the conflict in Ukraine continues to be "the most central and consequential crisis for Europe's future" as the war eyes its fourth year.
