United States Vice President JD Vance offered condolences "to the millions of Christians all over the world" after Pope Francis died at the age of 88.

"I was happy to see him yesterday, though he was obviously very ill. But I’ll always remember him for the below homily he gave in the very early days of COVID. It was really quite beautiful. May God rest his soul," Vance said in a message posted on X.

The late Pope held a private meeting with Vance on Sunday, after criticizing the US administration's immigration policy the day before.
