Former Irish Prime Minister (Taoiseach) Leo Varadkar has returned to his post in a rotation agreement, swapping roles with Micheal Martin, who will now take over from Varadkar as deputy prime minister (tanaiste).
In the Irish Parliament, 87 members voted in favor of Varadkar's nomination, while 62 opposed it. After the vote, the new government leader said he is thinking of how to "tame inflation and bring the cost of living under control, especially when it comes to the cost of energy, childcare, education, rent and healthcare."
The rotation of power was established in a coalition agreement dated June 2020.
