Venezuela's opposition party Voluntad Popular announced on Friday it will replace its former leader Juan Guaido (pictured) who unexpectedly left the region at the end of last month.
Voluntad Popular unanimously picked political coordinator Freddy Superlano to lead the party's political efforts to defeat President Nicolas Maduro in the elections that will likely take place next year. However, Superlano is like Guaido also barred by judicial rulings from running for office.
Guaido left Bogota for Miami on April 25 after what he called a forced leave from Colombia due to threats from Maduro's regime. He served as acting president in a shadow government between 2019 and 2022.
