British telecoms giant Vodafone Group announced on Monday that it will cut 1,000 jobs in Italy or about 20% of its total workforce in the country.

Vodafone explained it made the decision following a drop in revenue caused by "extraordinary pressures" coming from its industry-wide competition, and urged a "radical simplification" of its business operations.

Vodafone had around 5,765 employees in Italy, according to the company's data from March 2022.
