WBD plunges 10% on Disney-Charter dispute

EPA-EFE/ETIENNE LAURENT

Warner Bros Discovery shares plunged 10% on Friday amid the dispute between Walt Disney and Charter Communications. The dispute between the two giants is over tariffs, with Disney demanding an increase and market-driven favorable terms.

Yesterday, Disney blocked access to its channels to almost 15 million subscribers to Charter's Spectrum service, the second-largest cable television provider in the US. Viewers in New York and Los Angeles are unable to access ABC, ESPN, FX, Freeform, National Geographic, and a dozen other Disney-owned channels.

The dispute had spillovers this Friday on several companies. At 11:56 am ET, Warner Bros Discovery shares dropped by 10.01%, selling at $11.82. Meanwhile, Paramount Global, Charter Communications, and The Walt Disney Company plummeted 8.88%, 3.45%, and 2.72%, respectively.
