United States President Donald Trump's Senior Counselor for Trade and Manufacturing, Peter Navarro, criticized Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Tuesday, urging him to "tone it down" amid escalating trade tensions. Speaking on CNN, Navarro suggested that Trudeau's remarks about Trump were inappropriate, emphasizing that trade discussions should remain professional.
Navarro also addressed market volatility, referring to the first two days of March on Wall Street. However, he defended Trump's tariff policies, stating, "There will be some tariff disturbance," but refrained from guaranteeing that prices would not rise, saying, "I'm not going there, let’s see what happens."
The remarks come after Trudeau called the US-Canada trade dispute "very dumb" and accused Trump of treating Canada aggressively. In December, before taking office, Trump mocked Trudeau on Truth Social, calling him the "governor" of the "Great State of Canada" after warning of potential tariffs.
