WH calls reports on Musk leaving Trump admin 'garbage'

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt dismissed Wednesday a Politico report claiming Elon Musk will soon leave his role as a government partner under President Donald Trump. In a post on X, she rejected the report's credibility, insisting both Trump and Musk have already addressed the matter.

"This "scoop" is garbage," Leavitt wrote. "Elon Musk and President Trump have both *publicly* stated that Elon will depart from public service as a special government employee when his incredible work at DOGE is complete."

Politico, citing sources within Trump's inner circle, reported that Musk is expected to officially step down between late May and early June. The report suggested Musk and Trump had agreed on the departure, though Musk might continue advising informally. One source added that believing Musk would fully withdraw from Trump's orbit was unrealistic.
