White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre underlined on Thursday that "extreme House Republicans" cannot come to an agreement among themselves to keep the United States government from shutting down.

Speaking at a press briefing, Jean-Pierre stressed that these Republicans' "chaos is marching us toward a reckless and damaging government shutdown." She reiterated that they need to "stop playing political games."

"There is so much at stake here," Jean-Pierre noted, adding that they should adhere to the bipartisan deal made back in May, "which two-thirds of House Republicans voted for." The press secretary insisted the government must be kept open.
