United States National Security Council's Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby told reporters on Monday that "nobody wants to see conflict" over the China balloon incident.
Kirby shared that although the issue didn't help improve relations between Washington and Beijing, as the latter's reaction to the shootdown "strains credulity," US President Joe Biden's stance did not change, as the head of state still believes these bilateral ties are "very important."
Kirby also asserted that the time the US has had so far to examine the balloon is very important, as it will shed light on China's "capabilities and intent."
