White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced Wednesday that US President Donald Trump will conduct a media briefing at 4:00 pm ET to reveal new tariffs targeting the automobile sector.

"President Trump will announce tariffs to protect the American auto industry at 4 pm ET from the Oval Office today," Leavitt told reporters, thus confirming previous reports.

Trump said on Monday that automobile tariffs were "coming soon," just before pharmaceutical levies come into effect, even as he indicated that not all of his upcoming levies would be imposed on April 2 and some countries may get "breaks."
