United States Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said on Monday during a press briefing that the US is "proud" to support Israel after three-day tensions in the Gaza Strip. Jean-Pierre noted that the US support of Israel's security is long-standing and unwavering and that the US backs Israel in defending itself from the "terrorist" attack, adding that the US supported the Iron Dome missile defense system that has intercepted hundreds of missiles, and thus saved lives.
The press secretary told reporters aboard Air Force One that the US has worked with Israel, Palestinian authorities, Egypt, Qatar, and Jordan to "ensure a swift resolution to the conflict."
She called the casualties from both sides a "tragedy," and encouraged both sides to "fully implement the ceasefire and ensure fuel and humanitarian supplies are flowing into Gaza." Jean-Pierre concluded by saying that both the Israeli and the Palestinians deserve to live "safely and securely."
