WHO chief confirms his safety after Israeli strikes on Yemen

World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus confirmed his safety after Israeli airstrikes targeted the airport in Yemen's capital, Sana'a on Thursday. The strikes occurred as the organization's head and his team were preparing to board a flight.

"We will need to wait for the damage to the airport to be repaired before we can leave," the WHO chief said in the statement on X. He revealed that one crew member was injured, and at least two people were reportedly killed in the attack. The airstrike, he added, caused significant damage to the air traffic control tower and runway.

The WHO chief and his team were in Yemen to negotiate the release of detained United Nations staff and assess the country's humanitarian situation.
