World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus (pictured) in a meeting with Palestinian Foreign Minister Riad Malki emphasized the need for a ceasefire in Gaza.
He highlighted the "catastrophic health and humanitarian situation" in the region, expressing concern over intensified bombardment in the city of Rafah. "A ceasefire and efforts to achieve a lasting peace are urgently needed," he said, calling for ensuring that hostages held by Hamas receive necessary medical attention.
The talks came after US President Joe Biden on Monday said he expects a ceasefire to be agreed on by early next week, while Qatar pointed to a lack of a breakthrough in talks.
