Wall Street closes with strong gains after Arm IPO

United States stock markets closed high in the green territory on Thursday following the initial public offering of chipmaker Arm, which closed at $63.59, 25% above its pre-announced IPO price. Earlier in the day, investors were focused on several economic data reports, while after the closing bell, they will be looking at the next earnings report by Adobe.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average index was up 0.96% or 332 points at the close with Goldman Sachs, its best performer, rising 2.86%. The Nasdaq 100 advanced by 0.82% as Sirius XM Holdings jumped 4.10% at the end of the trading session. The S&P 500 closed 0.84% higher. PENN Entertainment pulled up the index after increasing 8.72%.

The euro was down 0.83% compared to the dollar to change hands for 1.06428 at 3:59 pm ET.
