Spokesperson for China's Taiwan Affairs Office (TAO), Chen Binhua, stated on Wednesday that "Taiwan independence means war" while commenting on the 2024 regional elections.

"We respect the social system of the island … Currently, Taiwan is facing a crucial choice between peace and war, prosperity and regression. We hope that the people of Taiwan can recognize their interests and distinguish right from wrong," Chen told a press conference.

According to the Chinese official, the DPP candidate Lai Ching-te and running mate Hsiao Bi-khim will lead Taiwan into a disastrous abyss, harming peace and stability in the region.
