The German Energy Ministry stressed on Friday that filling the Nord Stream 2 pipeline with gas can only start after the project is granted the country's authorization.

A representative of the department stated at a press conference that certification is a "clear legal prerequisite."

The ministry's comments come in response to the reports the pipeline will start operating in January.
