Shares of WW International Inc, previously known as Weight Watchers International, Inc., tumbled over 20% on Thursday after television icon Oprah Winfrey announced she is leaving the company's board.
Winfrey, who has been serving on the board for nine years, said on Wednesday she will not seek re-election at the company's annual meeting in May but noted she will continue to "advise and collaborate with WeightWatchers and CEO Sima Sistani in elevating the conversation around recognizing obesity as a chronic condition, working to reduce stigma, and advocating for health equity."
WW International dived 21.63% to $2.99 per share at 11:10 am ET.
