Idaho Supreme Court sustained a law that will criminalize almost all abortions on Friday. The new laws will take effect later in August after Roe v Wade was overturned in June by the United States Supreme Court.
Following the implementation of the new law, any abortion provider could face up to five years in prison, and the only exception to the ban will be if the mother's life is at risk or lawful evidence that the pregnancy is the result of rape or incest. Lieutenant Governor Janice McGeachin, an Idaho state leader, is calling for even stricter abortion laws, which would include "eliminating the exceptions for rape, incest and the life of the mother and pushing to classify abortion as felony murder."
